Some fascinating articles in this week’s issue:
- the great Calvin Tomkins profiling Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson, who creates bizarre repetitive theatrical spectacles;
- Rachel Aviv reporting on the world of OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers);
- “The Voyeur’s Motel,” an excerpt from Gay Talese’s forthcoming book about a guy who bought a motel in Aurora, Colorado, specifically to conduct research — that is, spy on people doing whatever they do in motel rooms, including have sex, watch TV, be boring, and in one instance strangle someone to death.
But mostly it’s an extraordinary issue for what the magazine calls “drawings” but readers experience as “cartoons,” starting with the great cover image (above) by Tomer Hanuka and continuing with a high number of good cartoons.
