Quote of the day: INITIATION

June 29, 2010

I looked at Lucas with the pang that a parent feels when he knows his child will be hurt and that it’s no one’s fault and that to try to preempt the rites of passage is an act of contempt for the child’s courage.

Photo diary: Joe

June 28, 2010

my dear old friend Joe Martin is visiting NYC from Washington, DC

we spent a lovely evening on my veranda, him telling stories about working with Barney Frank and George Clooney among others. But he HATES having his picture taken.

can you see why? he looks at the camera with true hatred

After dinner at the Bay Leaf with Stephen and Andy, we walked around the block and checked out the latest windows at Bergdorf Goodman.

Quote of the day: INITIATION

June 28, 2010

Ancient peoples invented rites of passage in part to break the spell of childhood and move the initiate from the mother’s lap to the lap of the world. To this day, a person must dismantle the spell of childhood or fail to find their place in life.
